Hi friends and welcome to another edition of Barolo for lunch! Summer is here now and that means that the temporary assortment is paused for a few weeks. But fret not, I’ll make sure to keep delivering tips throughout the summer. This week I’ve picked out two small size favorites, for the times you don’t want to crack open a full bottle. Cheers! 🍷
Sancerre Domaine des Vieux Pruniers – #5494 – 119:-
Love me some Sauv Blanc in the summer! Fresh, crispy, sweetish and just amazing. Goes surprisingly well together with goat cheese, but don’t serve it too cold. Chilled, but not freezing. 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
Paolo Scavino Langhe Nebbiolo – #2368 – 119:-
Paolo Scavino is known for making their Nebbiolo in a slightly more modern/approachable style and this is no exception. All the classic Nebbiolo markers, with roses and raspberry at the front stage. I always try to keep a couple of these at hand, for when a Wednesday bolognese needs some flair. 100% Nebbiolo.

Nerd zone: Sancerre
Sancerre is a really interesting region in the eastern part of the Loire Valley in France. It’s mostly associated with crisp, and highly aromatic white wines made from Sauvignon Blanc. The climate is cool and the soils are rich with lime stome, and when you put that together you end up with wines that has an almost electric acidity to them. Taste-wise, you can expect notes of green apple, citrus and freshly cut grass.
While white Sancerre more or less dominate the export from the region, it also produces small amounts of red and rosé wines from Pinot Noir. These reds are typically light-bodied and fresh, and are surprisingly age-worthy in good vintages.
Sancerre is one of those regions that always surprise me in a good way. The wines are reasonably affordable, and they are pretty unique in their style. They are also super food friendly, and goes great with everything from Chevre cheeses to seafood. Oh and Ceasar salads, amazing combo!
