Hello friends! Starting to get some spring feelings here, so it’s time to break out the crispy whites. Today, I’ve picked out two great ones, one South African gem and one Sauvignon Blanc, which is a grape I tend to forget about but never regret drinking. If you’re looking for a good red to pick up this week I’d recommend checking out the Catena Alta Malbec which is a wine made for grilling. Cheers! 🍷
Alheit Vineyards Cartology – #92948 – 329:-
This wine is produced by one of the more hip winemakers in South Africa, and is unsurprisingly made primarily from Chenin Blanc. It’s spicy, citrusy and just overall amazing. It has enough structure to stand up against most foods, but I’d drink this with grilled fish. 90% Chenin Blanc & 10% Semillion.
Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Les Roches – #5514 – 329:-
Now this is crispy! Classic Sauv Blanc from the standard assortment, that never fails to deliver. Green apples, gooseberry and just a hint of lime to finish it off. Really great stuff, that you should definitely drink together with a asparagus risotto. 100% Sauvignon Blanc.

Nerd zone: Sauvignon Blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is a grape that originates from Bordeaux. Its name is thought to be derived from the French words "sauvage" (wild) and "blanc" (white), but the wines it produces are nowhere near wild in my book. It’s rather crispness and exactness that comes to my mind, but considering that Sauv Blanc is now planted all over the world it obviously comes in different variations; from refreshing, minerally wines in the Loire Valley to bold, herbaceous and tropical wines in warmer places like New Zealand.
Regardless of the climate though, Sauvignon Blanc wines tend to be very aromatic - aka pronounced smell - with a nose that can include anything from fresh-cut grass to gooseberries. It’s usually one of those wines that you learn to identify blind first.
More importantly, Sauvignon Blanc also pairs excellently with food, thanks to its high acidity and vibrant flavors. It is particularly great at complementing stuff like goat cheese, seafood, and green vegetables. If you haven’t already, pick up a bottle or two and try it out!
