Hi friends! Decent temporary assortment this week, with for instance Promis Ca'Marcanda, a super-tuscan from Gaja, and Egly-Ouriet Les Prémices. Besides those I found a couple of interesting bottles, that I really suggest that you check out. Cheers! 🍷
Alheit Vineyards Cartology – #94474 – 329:-
A South African classic and a pretty elegant version of Chenin. On the nose you’ll find green apples and citrus, but it’s still bold enough to pair well with most foods. I’d drink it with a chèvre chaud. 94% Chenin Blanc and 16% Semillon.
Alfa Crux Corte – #92605 – 309:-
I’m usually not one to recommend South American wines, but this is a favorite of mine. Bold, fruity and oaky. Its a 2014 which means its gotten some tertiary notes too, so all in all a complex wine. Drink with the first barbecue of the year. Syrah, Cabernet sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Tempranillo.

Nerd zone: Argentina
Argentina is pretty much synonymous with Malbec, a grape that originally comes from France but is now very associated with the hills of the Andes. The combination of high altitude, loads of sunshine and cool nights give Argentine Malbec a pretty unique style, which is very bold and deep in color and with very ripe fruit. It can sometimes have a floral tone to it, which is not always great in my opinion. As per usual, as long as you pay enough you’re almost guaranteed to find interesting and balanced wines.
The most famous regions in Argentina are Mendoza and Salta. Both regions grow grapes at very high altitudes – Salta actually has some of the highest vineyards in the world, but is more famous for its Torrentés than Malbec. Torrontés is an aromatic white grape not entirely different from Riesling.
Fun fact: in many places you’ll still find ancient irrigation canals that was built by the indigenous Huarpe people long before the Spanish arrived.
