Hi friends! Just realized that we’re VERY close to the hundred edition of Barolo for lunch, never thought I would see that day. I need some inspiration on how to celebrate that, and it’s also the perfect time to reflect a bit on the format. Let me know what you think. Cheers! 🍷
Vietti Roero Arneis – #78971 – 89:- (375ml)
Awesome bottle of Arneis that’s currently only available in a half-bottle. Fruity and fresh white wine, with notes of pears, citrus and just a hint of bitterness that makes this more than just good. Drink it chilled together with a huge mortadella sandwich. 100% Arneis.
Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Les Roches – #5514 – 339:-
Ah, Sancerre. I don’t know why, but I tend to forget that I absolutely adore these wines - soo crispy and fresh. Just the perfect blend of gooseberry, green apples and with enough acidity to make Riesling ashamed. Just the perfect match to a Chevrette. 100% Sauvignon Blanc.

Nerd zone: Sauvignon blanc
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the world’s most recognizable white grape varieties. It’s known for having very high acidity and a very distinct aroma, which is a combination of gooseberry and grass – some people refer to it as “catpiss” which might not be as enticing. It’s pretty easy to “learn” though and probably the grape that most people in my sommelier class identified most consistently. The wines are almost never aged in oak to preserve the freshness of the grape, and they pair great with goat cheese, device or even thai food.
The grape originally comes from the Loire Valley in France, but it’s grown all over the place now, like New Zealand, California, and South Africa. The warmer the climate the more tropical notes, and in the colder climates you’ll get more stony notes. Both are pretty great though. Fun fact: The name comes from “sauvage” which means wild, which some people think is a reference to how quickly the vines grow.
